Reformation Essay Topics - The History of the Reformation in Three Steps
The Reformation essay topics I assigned to my freshmen class were two essays each on history and theology. This is a tough assignment, because of the nature of the subject matter.
Of course we are talking about Christian literature, which, as the name suggests, is written by Christians. So, to get across the entire flavor of the Reformation, we must not only be writing about specific people but also the time period in which they lived. To help with this, I gave the students some homework.
Each student had to make a list of four writers of the Reformation in terms of their genre. Then, I asked them to read each author's most notable works (I didn't want my freshmen class to be so caught up in their personal backgrounds that they couldn't absorb the writings of the historic figures in question). Then I made them read these books to get a sense of the people and events mentioned.
